Mahayogi Gorakhnath ji Maharaj is one of the pioneers of social reform in India. By his visionary, untiring work and effort he enlightened, educated and awakened the masses against the customs/evils like untouchability and other such differentiating, demeaning and dividing customs, traditions, superstitions, social injustices and narrow mindedness prevalent in our Sanatan society. Instead he impressed upon and kept at higher pedestal the moral and ethical action, honesty, integrity, character, good personal and social conduct. Mahayogi Gorakhnath who devoted his entire life to asceticism, is a symbol of Indian culture's glorious past of renunciation and reformation in our traditions and conventions as per the norms of the society and demand of time.

Guru Shri Gorakhnath is also a luminous link in one of the longest Guru-Disciple lineages of the world in the religious and spiritual field. 'स्वस्ति पन्थामनुचरेम्’ "expresses mission, vision, goal and objective of the Mahayogi Gorakhnath University Gorakhpur. This motto' is part of the fifth Mandala Mantra of the Rigveda

" स्वस्ति पन्थामनुचरेम् सूर्याचन्द्रमसाविव ।
पुर्नर्ददताऽघ्रनता जानता संगमे यहि ।। "

अर्थात्- In other words, as the sun and moon follow the appropriate unwavering right path, we too should follow the unwavering right path as well and have company of virtuous, beneficent, nonviolent, and leamed persons.
